These Japanese tabi socks feature goldfishes (kingyo) and cherry blossoms (sakura) patterns, mixing summer and spring motifs.
Japanese enjoy kingyo very much and usually keep them in a glass bowl.Imported from China at the beginning of the 16th century, they becam popular in the Edo Period (1603-1867). Up until the 1960s, it was common to see kingyo sellers in Tokyo, carrying around kingyo-filled buckets suspended from a shoulder carrying pole. At matsuri (local festivals), the game stand "Kingyo sukui" where you try to catch kingyo with a dip is a classic.
Split toe socks are great by themselves and best with flip flops or round-toe shoes. Get Japanese socks and give your toes some freedom back!
